Projects: “Aprons”

Aprons is a series of monotypes inspired by an article about a female referee in a futbol match who was told to “stick to the kitchen” by a field player. This act of misogyny was a motivator to produce six works. The series was approached as monotypes to take advantage of the transitory and unpredictable nature of the medium and then each was hand-altered with paint, collage, charcoal, artist’s pen or combinations of these. Aprons visually exposes the vulnerability of females living in precarity and celebrates the strength of those who provide care for us.
