Projects: “Women’s Work”
The series, Women’s Work, was conceived to promote economic, social and political equality for women. Inspiration for the four portraits came from strong and important women in my life. Quilting is traditionally attributed only to women and that appeals to me. Each individual quilt pattern piece is added to the painted portraits and builds upon another to become whole, seen and valued as are the women depicted. The quilt pieces themselves are over 100 years old and were passed down from a family member thus making them very personal. The threads, a binding element, connect, mend and hold together the portraits.
